Karachi Protesters Burn French Flags as Thousands Demonstrate in Several Cities

Crowds in Karachi were among thousands in several cities to stage anti-France protests on October 30 amid growing anger towards President Emmanuel Macron.

The demonstration took place outside the Karachi Press Club, and followed Macron’s comments in early October about what he called the problem of “Islamic separatism”.

Macron’s speech was followed by the killing of teacher Samuel Paty, and what the president called an “Islamist terror attack” on a church in Nice that left three dead. Macron has also supported the publication of cartoons of the Prophet Muhammad, an issue that has flared in France amid the trial of suspects in the 2015 attack on the offices of Charlie Hebdo magazine.
