Is karaoke about to get its cool back? The new London venue reinventing the sing-along

Between the sticky microphones, bad Technicolor lighting and flat pop (the Prosecco, not your mate Dave’s lacklustre rendition of ‘Believe’), most karaoke joints are far from fabulous. Well, technically speaking anyway. Obviously, we’re more than happy to oblige any dank corner for the opportunity to belt out ‘Mr Brightside’ with our nearest and dearest, but what if we could have it all? Apparently, soon we can.

After launching eight branches across Europe, Bam Karaoke Box is about to arrive in London. Promising to bring ‘Parisian flair’ to Victoria, the gargantuan 10,000sq ft townhouse will have an impressive 22 private karaoke rooms, a standalone bar, a live music stage (for those feeling brave) and a sunny outdoor terrace.

Designed by BradyWilliams Studio, which was responsible for the grandeur of establishments such as Maine and Bob Bob Ricard, the rooms are each designed to have their own personality, ranging from the ‘scandalous’ — inspired by forbidden, clandestine affairs — to the rather more wholesome ‘cosy library’, which, of course, speaks for itself.

Plus, there’ll be far more on offer than stale crisps and watery glasses of rum and Coke. Alongside boujie snacks including devilled eggs with dollops of Exmoor caviar, fresh cured salmon rillettes and scoffable mini croque monsieurs, mixologist Julian de Féral is shaking up the usual suspects, plus inventive cocktails such as the Spotlight, made with English whisky, umeshu and ginger liqueur.
