Last time we saw EastEnders' Alfie and Kat Moon – aka Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace – they looked like they were going to meet their end in Redwater.

During the climax of Redwater, Kat was involved in a boat crash which led to her head being cut open on the propeller and Alfie had to go through an operation. However, the last time we see him, he's been resuscitated.

Although a return to Redwater looks unlikely, Shane hinted while appearing on This Morning that the classic couple could be making a comeback to Albert Square.

Speaking to Eamonn Holmes and Ruth Langsford, he said: "So we did the very last episode where Alfie's flat lying on a gurney, Kat is lying face-down on a beach in her own blood, and to all intents and purposes, we thought Kat and Alfie were dead.

"But then they said Redwater is not coming back, but then I keep hearing things that it may come back, not necessarily with Kat and Alfie.

"John Yorke – who is taking over EastEnders – in 2001/2002 he created the Slaters and the Moons, and he's now back and he's probably one of the best at this kind of show. He's one of the best executive producers I've ever worked with and he's back at EastEnders now.

"So, y'know, there might be a little... who knows what happened to Kat and Alfie? At the moment I still think we're living in Spain, running a pub on the Costa Del Sol."

Shane also spoke about his upcoming country music album A Country Soul, which he's worked on with his son Jake Roche, who struck musical fame with his band Rixton.

Talking about the album, which he's set to release just in time for Christmas, he explained that he's been writing for other artists for a long time.

Explaining the story behind one of his songs, '22 Gardens', he said: "There was a girl I liked when I was about 10 or 11. I never used to go running along the street, I'd go running across 22 gardens to get to her. It's a love song and it was a song about if I was to bump into her now, would she still remember me?"

This Morning continues weekdays from 10.30am.
