Kate Garraway has said her husband Derek Draper’s recovery from COVID is “incredibly uncertain”, saying he was “ravaged” by the virus.

Draper has been in hospital since March last year after contracting the coronavirus, and Good Morning Britain presenter Garraway regularly updates fans on his battle.

Speaking to fellow presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid on the ITV show, she said she had been a bit low of late and that her husband’s fight was not over.

"It's been a strange time, I've been a bit low since Christmas - physically low, I felt physically at the end of my tether and had to regroup a bit,” said the 53-year-old.

"This week, a friend of mine's mother-in-law, who is 51 - so younger than me - died from COVID.

“She got it at Christmas, it went down very quickly and she died, I just thought, I cannot believe that here we are so far on.”

"Derek's still ravaged by the effects of COVID way back in March, his recovery is incredibly uncertain,” she said.

"I'm trying to look for new things and new ways and talking to doctors about what we can do for him.

“Meanwhile people are still dying in extraordinary numbers - people that aren't older, that haven't got underlying symptoms.”

“It's unbearable,” she added.

Garraway recently revealed that she is writing a book about Draper’s fight and the impact on their family, in a bid to help others who have suffered during the pandemic.

The TV star - who shares daughter Darcey, 14, and son Billy, 11, with Draper – shared her news on social media alongside a picture of what appeared to be the front cover of The Power Of Hope.

“Hello everyone - I've not been on here for a while as I've been taking time to gather myself and focus like everyone else on getting through this latest lockdown,” she told her 971,000 followers on Instagram.
