Kate Garraway struggling as sole parent while husband remains in hospital

Kate Garraway has admitted she is finding it tough to cope as the sole parent while her husband Derek Draper remains in hospital amid his coronavirus battle.

Draper has been in hospital since March last year after contracting COVID.

Good Morning Britain star Garraway, 53, is at home with the couple’s children – daughter Darcey, 14, and son Billy, 11, and said it is a struggle parenting alone.

Asked how she was coping during an interview with Good Housekeeping magazine, she replied: “I’m not sure I am coping!

“I honestly don’t know how single mums do it; it’s just so hard.

“A lot of the time I find myself thinking, ‘What would Derek say?’ and ‘What would Derek do?’”

The presenter said her GMB colleague Ranvir Singh, who is raising her child as a single mum, had given her some good advice, that “you just have to accept that you can’t do everything”.

Garraway - who regularly updates fans on how Draper is doing - shared that they are in a more positive place now than back in March 2020, when she said her husband’s “infection rates were the highest doctors had seen in anyone who has lived”.

The TV star recently revealed that she is writing a book called The Power Of Hope about Draper’s fight and the impact on their family, in a bid to help other people who have suffered during the pandemic.

Announcing her new project on Instagram, she said: “The pandemic is far from over and so is Derek’s journey but I have decided to share our story and what's helping to keep me going, as we all try to work out what our new futures will look like.
