Kate Garraway has urged the public to adhere to the latest coronavirus restrictions as she reiterated the brutal "reality" of her husband's current condition.
The TV presenter was appearing on Good Morning Britain as she told viewers and co-hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray that she was "tempted to show a picture of Derek in his current state" to alert people to the devastating impact of the virus and encourage them to follow the government's rules.
Derek Draper has been in hospital fighting off coronavirus since March and it has now been said the 53-year-old is one of an estimated five people in the world to have been affected so badly by coronavirus but still be alive.

"I have sympathy with people who are fed up with it," Kate said. "I think if you haven't been directly touched by it, you haven't seen the devastation, but your life has been devastated – your livelihood, your ability to feel a sense of joy – then, of course, I think you're going to get frustrated.
"But, you know, it does make me tempted to show a picture of Derek in his current state, and say 'You don't want this in your life'. And you don't know who it will affect and how, so, you know, stick to it [the rules]."
The TV star, who has two children with Derek, later revealed that his parents haven't been able to visit him at hospital for six months.
"If they can go six months without giving a hug to their son – I'm going to get emotional – who is desperately ill, the rest of us can get through," she said. "I don't mean to depress everybody but that is the reality of getting caught up in the virus."
Derek was initially put into an induced coma as he was unable to breathe. He has since been brought round, but remains in intensive care and has suffered from various complications, including holes in his heart, kidney and lung problems as well as diabetes from damage to his pancreas.
Speaking to You magazine last month about Derek's condition, Kate explained: "At first it was all about Derek’s lungs. But then his kidneys started failing and he was on dialysis. Now they’ve realised Covid can affect every cell of the body: most recently Derek’s been having problems with his intestines. The absorption of food and vomiting are problems and they’re trying to work out whether that’s because his cells don’t produce the enzymes to digest. His liver and heart and blood vessels have been affected."
"What the doctor said to me was, 'Sometimes, Kate, a day when nothing has gone backwards is a positive.'"
