Before her cancer announcement, conspiracy theories swirled about Kate Middleton's health and well-being and the reason behind the royal family's edited photos, so it's no wonder that she's staying out of the spotlight and leaning on a small circle of friends and family during this time. Royal insiders revealed that the Princess of Wales has a "tiny" circle of trust at the moment as she recovers from her cancer and preventative chemotherapy and maintains her distance from the public eye.

“The circle of trust is tiny,” a source told The Daily Beast's Tom Sykes, adding that her parents and siblings have been supporting her through it all. “She has been surrounded by Carole and Michael, and Pippa and James have obviously been there for her, as well. They are an incredibly tight family, and Catherine feels absolutely confident relying on them. They have been there for her for decades, and never let her down.”

The last time that Kate attended a royal event was back at Christmastime in 2023. She shared that she had a planned abdominal surgery in January of 2024 and has been away from royal duties ever since, asking for time, space, and privacy to heal.

Parents at Lambrook School, where Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis attend classes, told the Daily Beast that while Kate and her husband, Prince William, haven't been at sporting events and other school activities, they have been dropping their children off and are maintaining a "low profile."

“There have been rumors she has done dropoff, but I haven’t seen her since the video,” they added. “We all feel very protective of her. Ask anyone at the school—they are amazing parents.”

Kensington Palace and the royal family haven't shared a timeframe for Kate's return to her usual duties. A source told OK!, “While no one is pushing Kate to do anything but recover, she’s still feeling a lot of pressure to get back to her duties and to be even more perfect than before. She’s taking time to heal, but caring for her kids, being a good spouse to William, and her responsibility to her work are weighing heavily on Kate.”

Insiders also note that Kate does feel slightly guilty that she's not out and about while King Charles is back with a full schedule amid his recovery.

“Kate has guilt that Charles, who’s also battling cancer, is out there doing his part,” OK!'s sources continued. “The princess is still undergoing treatment, which is exhausting” and “she doesn’t want to delay getting back to work as a royal even more." They finished by saying that Kate feels the need “to get back into the swing of things" as soon as possible.
