Kathy Griffin Says She’s Dealing with Her Divorce ‘One Day at a Time’: ‘I Thank God for This Tour’ (Exclusive)

Kathy Griffin is keeping her mind focused on her work.

Speaking exclusively to PEOPLE at the ERA Coalition Forward Women's Equality Trailblazer Awards & Still Working 9 to 5 premiere on Wednesday, May 29, Griffin, 63, opened up about how she’s handling her divorce from her estranged husband Randy Bick.

“One day at a time,” the comedian says. “One show at a time. I thank God for this tour. I thank God it happened. I'm just so grateful to be on tour, so it takes my mind off it."

"The great Joan Rivers used to say, 'The more your life is in the s—--, the fun you are,' " Griffin adds. "So I must be hilarious.”

In December, Griffin filed for divorce with the Superior Court of California after nearly four years of marriage with Bick.

Court documents obtained by PEOPLE, confirmed the star cited "irreconcilable differences"  as the reason for their separation, which was dated as Dec. 22. She also requested to terminate the court’s ability to award spousal support to both parties, also asking the court to "enforce premarital agreement dated 12/23/2019."

"Well...s--t. This sucks,” Griffin wrote on Instagram as she reacted to her divorce news, which came days before the couple’s fourth wedding anniversary.

Back in March, the Suddenly Susan star hired a private investigator to serve Bick with divorce papers after his whereabouts could not be located.

Bick has "not been in contact with her'' or shared where he is "residing or staying,” since leaving their shared home at Griffin's request, per the court documents at the time. The documents added that Griffin’s efforts in hiring a private investigator to find Bick was also “unsuccessful."

"[Griffin] will make further attempts to locate [Bick] and will now take steps to enter his default," the brief continued.

Not long after, a court filing obtained by PEOPLE revealed that Bick had requested spousal support and attorney’s fees be covered by Griffin in accordance with the pair’s prenuptial agreement.

Griffin and Bick began dating in 2011 before marrying in January 2020.

"Randy and I are doing sort of toy rings for the ceremony because neither one of us like wearing rings ever. So we will never wear rings," she told PEOPLE at the time. "Deal with it."

She was also previously married to Matt Moline from 2001 to 2006.
