Katie Price offered £5k by animal charity to stop owning pets
PETA have offered Katie Price £5,000 and 'a stunning array of beautiful plush animal toys' if she signs a contract promising to give up pet ownership.
Animal protection charity PETA have ramped up their pressure on Katie Price to give up her pets for good, by offering her £5,000 if she promises never to get another one.
The star has been criticised over the deaths of seven animals in her care in recent years and has come under fire from animal charities as well as animal lovers.
Now, with Price having welcomed a new Sphynx kitten in January - the same month that she gave away her latest puppy, Tank - PETA have written her an open letter offering £5,000 and "a stunning array of beautiful plush animals" if she agrees to sign a legal document promising not to take on any more pets.
What did PETA say to Katie Price?
PETA vice president Elisa Allen wrote: "While your intentions may be good, the ever-growing number of animals who have either died under your supervision or been given away is impossible to ignore, and people are rightly concerned.
"Whatever you may offer as reasons for their suffering, relinquishment, or demise, the fact is that you are consistently harming these sensitive, sentient individuals, and I hope you agree that this is a solution."
The letter also made reference to Price's financial difficulties, continuing: "While accepting this sum may help in some small measure with your financial stresses, it will also show you’re willing to acknowledge that your home isn’t suitable for animals – and that’s OK. Many people would like to have an animal companion, but not everyone can or should.
"Such a decision would be applauded by your fans, show your children that there are considerations beyond what someone simply wants, and send a message to everyone that you intend to act in the best interests of living, feeling beings."
PETA added that the offer to sign the legally binding contract was valid for 12 months and wrote: "As an added incentive, we’d be very pleased to send you a stunning array of beautiful plush animal toys to feature in your social media posts and to share with your children."
Katie Price's pet tragedies
The mum-of-five has lost five dogs, a horse and one chameleon since 2017, prompting outrage from animal lovers and protection charities.
In 2017, her horse escaped from a field and was hit by a car, while in 2020, 2022 and 2023 her dogs Sparkle, Sharon and Blade also died after being killed in traffic accidents. Another dog, Queenie, died in 2018 after being hit by a delivery driver, a chameleon, Marvin, died in the same year, and a puppy, Rolo, died in 2020 just weeks after she got it when it suffocated in an electric armchair.
She also had to give away dog Bear after a number of near misses when he escaped into a road and him having attacked another animal, while another dog, Precious, is rumoured to have been given away to a member of production crew on one of her TV shows.
What has Katie Price said?
After losing her beloved dog Blade in 2023, Price hit out at those who suggested she shouldn't keep pets and said in an Instagram post: "Who said I shouldn’t have animals? Tell me why I shouldn’t have animals? Tell me why? I’m going to prove you f**kers wrong who say and believe everything.
"I had the RSPCA out and they ticked every box to say my animals are healthy - they ticked every box."
In 2020, a petition was launched calling for Price to be banned from owning any more pets which gained more than 36,000 signatures - but the star was said to be devastated by it.
Her reps said at the time: "It comes as a devastating blow as it is wholly biased, based on hearsay not actual fact.
"Katie loves her animals and to say otherwise is incorrect, unjust and unkind. It couldn't be further from the truth."
Price was heartbroken at the most recent death of one of her pets, Blade, in June 2023, writing on Instagram: "Worlds can’t express the lost of my best friend my protector my absolutely everything who had sadly passed away today I have no words to say how I’m feeling but numb and shocked rip Blade."
But following Blade's death, a statement from PETA said: "After a seventh animal died in her custody, Katie Price should be facing more than the court of public opinion – she should face a court of law and be banned for life from keeping animals.
"PETA urges authorities to look into Blade's death and reminds the public that it's not just Price who has blood on her hands.
"Greedy breeders who keep selling or 'gifting' animals to her are also to blame, as they know full well what the likely outcome will be."
