Katy Perry accused Hollywood of sexism as Minnie Mouse was honoured with a star on the Walk of Fame.

The popular cartoon character got her star 40 years after her fictional co-star Mickey Mouse.

Mickey was celebrated with his in 1978, when he was 50.

He was later joined by other Disney characters, however his female counterpart, who is soon to turn 90, is only just receiving hers.

Perry said: “Seeing Minnie is like returning home, it is a special skill to bring joy to so many and she does it with an effortless bat of the lash.

“So today – a brief 40 years after Mickey got his star – I am delighted to honour Minnie and her magic with hers.”

Russi Taylor, the voice of Minnie Mouse for more than 30 years admitted being “absolutely thrilled beyond words” at the news.

She said: “Minnie loves everyone, unconditionally, that’s the way she sees the world, which is probably one of the reasons she is as popular as she is.

“She, along with many other characters, has the power to help people, especially children who are suffering and in need. I try to put as much love into what I do in hopes that the audience will be able to hear that she is loving them.”

Josh Silverman, executive VP, global licensing, Disney Consumer Products described Minnie Mouse as “timeless” and commended her ability to “transcend boundaries.”

The character made her first debut in Steamboat Willie alongside her significant other, in 1928.
