A kayaker was rescued on Wednesday morning after falling into the sea.

Shoreham RNLI said its lifeboat was launched to assist the man who had fallen out of his kayak near the entrance to Shoreham Harbour.

The RNLI crew were helped by the Shoreham National Coastwatch Institution to locate the man and his kayak and take them back to shore on the lifeboat.

A spokesman for the Shoreham RNLI crew said: "Our inshore lifeboat was launched on service  on Wednesday morning to a kayaker who had fallen out his kayak just off the Shoreham Harbour entrance.

"The crew were assisted by the Shoreham National Coastwatch Institution team who provided the position of the casualty in the water.

"The crew rescued him from the water into the lifeboat before taking him and his kayak back to Silversands beach, where he had launched from.

"Always call 999 and ask for the coastguard if you see someone in difficulty in the water."
