Kazakhstan Builds New Hospitals to Cope With Rising Covid-19 Cases

Kazakhstan has begun building new hospitals in the capital city of Nur-Sultan as well as Almaty and Shymkent to cope with rising numbers of COVID-19 cases throughout the country.

This footage shows hospital construction in all three cities.

According to Radio Free Europe, the Nur-Sultan hospital was intended to serve patients “for decades,” while the Almaty hospital would have at least 280 beds, and the Shymkent hospital 700.

Kazakhstan was facing at least 17 deaths and 1,498 infections of COVID-19 as of April 17, with about 400 of those patients medical workers in Almaty and Nur-Sultan. One of the nation’s hospitals – Almaty’s Central City Hospital – was forced to go under lockdown after more than 100 health workers tested positive for the coronavirus within one day.
