Keir Starmer visits Bucks pub on general election campaign trail

The Labour party leader backed candidate Callum Anderson on a visit to Milton Keynes yesterday.

Speaking on a visit to the Shoulder of Mutton pub in Little Horwood, in the Buckingham and Bletchley constituency, Keir Starmer said it was “great” to bring his campaign to the county on the last Monday before the general election on July 4.

Speaking to a crowd of residents and supporters, he spoke of “a summer of change” under a prospective Labour government.

After praising local MP hopeful Callum Anderson, Mr Starmer said: “We have changed the Labour party. A Labour party that proudly says, ‘country first, party second’. That has a positive story about the future of our country.

“A changed Labour party asking for the opportunity to change our country for the better.

“The last yards are the hardest and nothing must be taken for granted. Every vote has to be earned. The polls don’t predict the future.”

He also spoke about “redoubling” party efforts to boost voter turnout ahead of Thursday’s 10pm deadline – describing it as a “fight that will go down to the wire” in some constituencies.

The campaign event was interrupted at points by enthusiastic canine supporter Snoopy, who also managed to steal focus from the Labour leader in one particularly striking press image.
