Rangers want to make a summer move for Scotland star Kenny McLean.

Record Sport understands the Light Blues are keen on the Norwich City midfielder, who was part of Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad that has returned dejectedly from Euro 2024. Philippe Clement and his recruitment team have McLean on their list of summer targets, with the former Aberdeen and St Mirren star having been tracked by the Rangers scouting team at the end of the season and at the European Championships.

The 32-year-old still has two years left on his Carrow Road deal with a further 12 month option on top of that. Any move depends on whether or not Norwich would be willing to do business. New boss Johannes Hoff Thorup has just taken over at the Canaries and it remains to be seen what part McLean will play.

If Rangers are to get a deal done then it would depend on Norwich’s asking price and the player being offered a long-term contract at Ibrox. The Glasgow club were interested in McLean last year before he penned his recent extension.

McLean has never hidden his desire to sign for Rangers amid numerous links over the years and, speaking to The Athletic in 2021, he admitted it would be a dream.

He said: "I'd be lying if I said it wasn't something I'd want to do. As a kid that's what you want to do, play for your boyhood team. Right now, I'm about to play in the Premier League again, so I'm not thinking about it!

"But for me and my family, it would be pretty special. I grew up a Rangers fan, used to go to the games with my dad and as a kid in Glasgow, you support Rangers or Celtic and you want to play for one of them. So, I was on the better side."

Rangers are keen to bring in more Scottish players, after they landed Connor Barron from Aberdeen. Liam Kelly is also likely to sign when his short-term deal at Motherwell expires.

Rangers have also signed Jefte, Clinton Nsiala and Oscar Cortes on another loan with an option to buy. They have also agreed a long-term deal to sign Hamza Igamane from AS FAR and also want to land Bayern Munich winger Yusuf Kabadayi.
