Kenyatta Insists New Poll Will Go Ahead, Calls for Prayer and Reconciliation

Outgoing Kenya President Uhuru Kenyatta insisted in a statement on October 18 that re-run elections would take place on October 26 and called for “prayer and reconciliation.”

Speaking outside the State House in Nairobi, Kenyatta announced a national day of prayer on October 22.

Opposition candidate Raila Odinga withdrew from the contest, and said the poll should not go ahead without sufficient reforms of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission. His supporters have organized a series of demonstrations calling for such reforms. Credit: Uhuru Kenyatta via Storyful
