After his triumphant return to music earlier this year as the reigning champion of The Voice UK, Kevin Simm has been hard at work on his new solo album.

The former Liberty X star admitted that he found the process of making new record Recover much easier than his time writing for his noughties pop group.

"Writing was difficult with Liberty X, because when there's five of you it's just horrendous for writing songs," Kevin told Digital Spy.

"Some people can do that sort of thing, but I never liked being part of a big group. When you've got five of us and then maybe a couple of co-writers, it just go too much sometimes.

"I didn't really enjoy the writing side. Whereas this time, it was more chilled. I found the people that I wanted to work with and there was no rush to get things done."

But when it came to writing the new album, Kevin revealed that he didn't have a stash of ideas saved up as he genuinely believed the "nail was in the coffin" for that side of his career.

"To be honest I'd never really thought that far forward," Kevin said. "I guess I've always known what sort of sound would suit me, but I only really started to think about it once I'd won the voice."

That sound hears Kevin take on a more guitar-led vibe for his new album Recover, which has been led by new single 'Wildfire'.

The album's out next Friday, October 28, through Universal Music.
