Keys School Board updates policies

Mar. 15—The Keys School Board of Education on Thursday, March 14, updated several district policies and accepted the 2024-'25 academic calendar.

Several policy updates had been recommended by the Oklahoma State School Boards Association. Hulbert Superintendent Vol Woods said the simple word changes match up to recently passed legislation.

A new policy was adopted regarding security cameras, because the feed is not publicly accessible. Woods said the district has been following the rules of the policy before it was ever brought to up by the OSSBA.

"We've had security cameras for a while, but there hasn't been a policy on it," Woods said. "The school board association just recently came out with that one, recommending if you have security cameras, you adopt their policy."

An agreement with Barlow Education Management Services for 2024-'25 was approved. The group represents the board when it comes to teacher negotiations, and Keys has been with the management service for several years.

A software service agreement for the upcoming year was accepted with Sylogist Inc., formerly known as Wengage. Woods said the program is operated by most Oklahoma schools for accounting and student data purposes.

Woods was authorized to apply for opioid abatement funds. If the district receives the grant, Woods wants to pay a social worker's salary with the funds.

The board approved for all of the career-certified staff to be rehired for the 2024-'25 school year. For the next school year, Ron Dunaway was hired as the new head basketball coach, while Justin Brown is set to be the new head football coach. A Spanish teacher, Nicole Hope, was also hired for the upcoming school year.

Letters of resignation were accepted by the board from Marvin Goudeau, the past head elementary basketball coach, assistant varsity boys basketball coach, and assistant soccer coach. Adam Hass, Keys past head football coach, also turned in his letter of resignation.
