Kieran Dixon's new club revealed following Widnes Vikings departure

Kieran Dixon won't be without a club for long following his departure from Widnes Vikings. The winger has secured a release from his contract with the Championship club, who stated that he would be pursuing an opportunity elsewhere.

And it's believed that will be in League 1, with promotion-chasing Oldham understood to be the club where the 31-year-old will continue his career. Dixon who has scored 63 tries in 104 Super League appearances, is set to join Sean Long's squad as the Roughyeds chase promotion the Championship.

Dixon is a proven try-scorer having crossed 127 times in 222 career games for the likes of Hull KR, London Broncos and Widnes.

Speaking about his departure, Widnes coach Allan Coleman said: “It’s a tough one to be losing ‘Dicko’, I’ve said all year I’ve had probably the best four wingers in the competition, the strength there is phenomenal.

“But now with everyone fit, there is always going to be at least two players on the touchline. Kieran wasn’t going to be retained next year. We’ve got to be smart about our business and how we strengthen our squad for next year which means we have to make sacrifices.

“He goes with our best wishes, he’s been an absolute professional, a superb rugby player but more than anything a superb bloke.”

It's a two-horse race for the League 1 title, with Oldham and Keighley Cougars currently battling it out for top spot. They are currently joint top, with Sean Long's side leading on points difference.
