When you're known as an honest, hard-working professional footballer, it's probably not a big surprise when you get an honest answer that doesn't evade the question. Step forward Kieran Trippier, who didn't shy away from the big question of who is the best he's worked under.

The Newcastle United captain has been speaking with a man who knows how to play his position all too well in former Manchester United star turned football pundit and presenter Gary Neville. Trippier joined Neville for the latest edition of his series The Overlap, taking on 26 quickfire questions that encompassed all different types of subjects from the trivial to the mundane.

There was one key question, however, which was sure to capturethe attention of some inside the Newcastle united bubble, although in a light-hearted way. Asked by Neville who is the best manager he has played under, Trippier wasn't content giving the diplomatic answer most would have opted for; "I would say Simeone," he said, speaking of his time at Atletico Madrid working under the Argentine Diego Simeone. Then, after a short pause Trippier added, "sorry Eddie," making sure he sent his apologies to his current manager.

Trippier spent three years in Madrid, having left Tottenham Hotspur in 2019, winning the 2021 La Liga title with the Spanish club. The 33-year-old has always spoken positively about his time in Madrid and how much he enjoyed the experience of working under Simeone.

Among the other big topics touched on in the interview was Trippier's favourite meal and best holiday destination. The answers are a Chinese and Ibiza, for those interested. You can see the full interview on YouTube here.
