Kieran Trippier sends 'absolutely incredible' Newcastle reminder as transfer uncertainty parked

Speculation persists over Kieran Trippier's Newcastle United future but the Magpies' vice-captain has again taken the time to wax lyrical over the club he currently plies his trade for and the 'absolutely incredible' support on Tyneside.

The Newcastle right-back attracted serious interest in January and Middle East clubs are said to be keen on acquiring his services this summer. Trippier, 33, is entering the final year of his St James' Park contract and any sale would free up crucial funds for potential incomings.

The former Tottenham Hotspur defender captained England during their 3-0 friendly win over Bosnia and Herzegovina at St James' Park earlier this month, with Eddie Howe and Newcastle supporters hoping that isn't the last time Trippier walks the home side out at the 52,000-seater.

“Firstly, it’s amazing to play for Newcastle,” the defender told England's media channels ahead of Euro 2024. “The supporters are absolutely incredible. But it was even more special because I had the opportunity to lead my country out as captain at Newcastle. Again, when England go on the road, it’s always a special feeling.

“Playing for Newcastle and England, they’re both amazing. This season, we’ve had some very special nights at Newcastle. It was a very proud moment for myself that night.”

Uncertainty over Trippier's future will likely rumble on long into the summer as Newcastle plot how to attack the upcoming transfer window. Howe wants to keep the bulk of his players together but know some sales are necessary to unlock spending capabilities.

Profit and sustainability rules mean Newcastle will listen to offers for some first-team regulars, while attempting to offload deadwood on inflated Mike Ashley-era wages.

For now, Trippier's club situation will be parked and his sole focus will instead be on carrying England to the latter stages of Euro 2024. The full-back knows this is likely to be the final tournament he features in for his country after a stellar run in the Three Lions setup.
