Nou Camp, Santiago Bernabeu, Old Trafford, San Siro and Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Kieran Trippier has played away at the most iconic stadiums in Europe, but Elland Road comes out on top for him.

The England right-back was asked which is the best away atmosphere he has ever played in and, across a 14-year career, Leeds United’s fans stand out as the best for him. Now 33, Trippier is currently away on international duty with England ahead of Euro 2024.

Speaking to Channel 4, he said: "I’d say Elland Road’s up there. Playing against Leeds when I was at Burnley, Tottenham, Newcastle [United], Leeds is really passionate fans.

“They’ve got a great support there and I’ve managed to play there for England as well, so I’d say Elland Road. Anfield as well, but Elland Road certainly.”

Trippier began his career with Manchester City, but would not get a break in the senior game until Barnsley took him on loan in 2010. Burnley would eventually take him away from Etihad Stadium and, to this day, Trippier has played more for the Clarets than any of his other clubs.

Spurs, Atletico Madrid and Newcastle would follow as he became one of the best right-backs in Europe, playing in the Champions League and visiting the best-known grounds in the sport. And yet, his trips to West Yorkshire with Burnley, Newcastle and England remain the stand-out away games in his career.

Ironically, Trippier’s first visit to Leeds as a player saw him sent off inside 30 minutes. Playing for Eddie Howe’s Burnley, Trippier was booked twice for separate fouls on Andros Townsend in January 2012 and got his marching orders.
