Mark Pougatch, the presenter of ITV's coverage of Euro 2024, surprised viewers during Saturday evening's match between Portugal and Turkey by announcing that one of their pundits, Danny Rohl, was stepping down immediately.

Pougatch has been co-hosting the tournament with Laura Woods since it began in Germany on June 14th. He was presenting as Group F took the spotlight, with both Portugal and Turkey seeking their second victory within days.

Portugal, led by the 39-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo, emerged as clear winners with a 3-0 scoreline. It was during the post-match analysis that Pougatch revealed that Rohl, who is also the manager of Sheffield Wednesday, would be leaving his role to return to the UK for pre-season preparations.

On Saturday, Rohl shared the studio with former England, Chelsea and Juventus star Eni Aluko and ex-England and Manchester United right-back Gary Neville. His insightful commentary had won him many fans among the viewers, who were disappointed to hear of his departure.

One fan expressed their disappointment on X after the announcement of Danny Rohl's departure from ITV, stating: "Real shame Danny Rohl has to leave the ITV studio to go to Sheffield Wednesday pre-season, a welcome voice on the panel".

Another viewer praised ITV Sport for their choice of pundit, commenting: "Thank you for giving us Danny Rohl. A refreshing choice, when it's easy to go with bigger household names. But his contributions have been insightful and informative. Nice to see a pundit give genuine opinions."
