Kilmarnock’s David Watson has been named the PFA Young Player of the Year by his fellow professionals.

The 19-year-old, dubbed the ‘Prestwick Pirlo’ has turned in a string of impressive displays as his side look to seal fourth place in the top flight.

The midfielder has been integral to the Rugby Park side’s rise up the table, featuring in 33 of his side’s 35 league fixtures.

And he’s showed maturity and calmness beyond his years on the big stage, netting five times including a late equaliser at Celtic Park and stunning solo efforts in wins over Aberdeen and St Mirren.

Speaking after receiving his award, he said: “It’s an amazing honour to be voted by the players in the league.

“It’s a massive achievement for me personally but I wouldn’t be able to do it without any of the boys, the coaching staff and everybody who works in and about the club.”

Watson was chosen ahead of Motherwell’s Lennon Miller, Dundee midfielder Luke McCowan and Rangers winger Ross McCausland.
