Kim Cattrall further fuels Sex and the City rivalry: 'We've never been friends'

Kim Cattrall has further fuelled her rivalry with her former Sex and the City co-stars, with the actress claiming that she was “never” friends with the other girls in a candid chat with Piers Morgan.

Earlier this month a clip from Kim’s upcoming interview with the British host sparked controversy when the 61-year-old actress said that Sarah Jessica Parker, who played Carrie Bradshaw in the show, “could have been nicer” – and now more of what she said about her time on the show has been revealed.

Kim, who played Samantha Jones, told Piers: “We’ve never been friends. We’ve been colleagues and it’s a very healthy place to be.

“I don’t see them. The common ground we had was the series and the series is over.”

The star disappointed fans earlier this year when it was confirmed that a third Sex and the City film would not be going ahead because Kim had refused to be a part of it.

SJP confirmed earlier this month that any hope for a third film was officially “over”, adding that there had been a “beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story” ready for filming.

She shared: “It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.”

Kim said of her former co-star: “I think she could have been nicer. I don’t know what her issue is. I think the thing that still bothers me is this feeling of being in some way made to be the baddie.

“I never asked for any money, any projects, to be thought of as some kind of diva is ridiculous.

“For me, it’s over and it’s over with no regrets. I just wish Sarah had been nicer.”

She adds that she gave the producers a “firm and respectful no” when approached.

A source previously claimed that Kim has regularly caused “drama” between the four main SATC cast, with the women previously working “very hard to protect their relationship”.

Speaking to People magazine, the insider shared: “Every relationship has its ups and downs and they worked very hard to protect fans from moments that weren’t ups.”

Addressing Kim’s claims that she outright denied the third film without making any “demands”, the insider added: “It’s amazing Kim is saying she wasn’t negotiating because she was absolutely asking for many demands, some of which have already been quoted.

“When she said the relationship was toxic, it’s interesting because she is the one who creates the drama, but she won’t take honest responsibility for her actions.

“She’s been protected by their silence for so long I think she just expects that.”

Willie Garson, who played Stanford Blatch in the franchise, also took to social media to seemingly hint that reports about Kim’s demands were true, writing: “Dear fans, because I’m ‘toxic’, I’m going to negotiate a contract for 6 months, not come to terms, then say I never wanted to do it anyway.”

Kim’s full interview with Piers Morgan will air on ITV1 tonight at 9pm on Piers Morgan’s Life Stories.
