The infamous Paper Magazine cover

It was the photo that coined the term “break the Internet,” and it indeed caused a stir back in 2014. Kardashian West oiled up and bared it all in the Paper magazine cover that was shot by Jean-Paul Goode, who took inspiration from his own photos of Grace Jones from the ’70s. There have since been countless memes and a mix of cultural criticism and praise, but either way, Kim accomplished what she set out to do.

No matter how many times she strips down, Kardashian West’s nude photos always provoke a reaction. This selfie from 2016 was a particularly polarizing one that garnered celebrity backlash and sparked conversations about female empowerment and body-shaming. From a pre-party at Versailles to a gorgeous Givenchy gown, as expected the couple’s Florence destination wedding was a wildly extravagant event. Kardashian West was later de-throned in that regard by her sister Kendall Jenner.
