Kim Kardashian enlists high-powered legal team to help free imprisoned sex trafficking survivor Cyntoia Brown

Last week, Kim Kardashian tweeted that she planned to do all that she could to help Cyntoia Brown after she was made aware of the 29-year-old woman’s unjust prison sentence, and the 37-year-old reality star has proven true to her word.

Kim’s attorney, Shawn Holley, has confirmed that Kim has enlisted the help of her high-powered legal team to try and free Cyntoia, as well as another woman, Alice Johnson.

Cyntoia was sentenced as an adult when she was 16 years old for the murder of Johnny Mitchell Allen, a 43-year-old real estate agent who solicited sex from her.

She is said to have suffered repeated sexual abuse as a child and was forced into prostitution by her boyfriend, who took all of the money that she earned.

Cyntoia has always claimed that she shot Allen in self-defence because she saw him reach for his gun, but she was found guilty and has already served 13 years in prison and won’t be eligible for parole until she is almost 70.

Alice Johnson is a 62-year-old grandmother who was sentenced to 21 years in prison for a first time, non-violent drug offence.

Speaking to The Blast, Kim’s lawyer confirmed that that the star has “asked me to help her find a way to help these women”.

She added: “We have already contacted Alice Johnson and her team of lawyers who are now actively trying to find ways to facilitate her release.”

Holley also said that she has a conference call scheduled to discuss Cyntoia Brown’s case.

Although Cyntoia has served over a decade of her sentence already, the story has returned to the public eye after stars such as Kim, supermodel Cara Delevingne, and singer Rihanna shared a tweet about the shock case.

Sharing the story, Kim wrote: “The system has failed. It’s heart breaking to see a young girl sex trafficked then when she has the courage to fight back is jailed for life!

“We have to do better & do what’s right. I’ve called my attorneys yesterday to see what can be done to fix this. #FreeCyntoiaBrown”.
