Kim Kardashian and Kanye West 'thrilled' to welcome third child after surrogate gives birth

Kim Kardashian and Kanye West have welcomed their third child into the world after their surrogate gave birth.

Kardashian announced the arrival on social media, telling fans the healthy baby girl, weighing 7lbs 6oz, was born on Monday, January 15.

In a statement she wrote: “Kanye and I are happy to announce the arrival of our healthy, beautiful baby girl.

“We are incredibly grateful to our surrogate who made our dreams come true with the greatest gift one could give and to our wonderful doctors and nurses for their special care. North and Saint are especially thrilled to welcome their baby sister.”

The couple - who are already parents to North, four, and Saint, two - decided to use a surrogate to have their third child after Kardashian suffered from placenta accereta with her previous pregnancies.

The life-threatening condition meant the placenta’s attachment to her uterine wall could have caused haemorrhaging in labour.

The condition hampered her labour with second child Saint in 2015 and caused serious complications.

​Kardashian confirmed the use of a surrogate in an episode of reality show Keeping Up with the Kardashians, saying she found the process harder than carrying her own child as she has not been in control.

She said: “It’s frustrating to not be able to do it on your own. It’s a weird dynamic.

“Like, I go to all the doctor’s appointments and I try to be really present, but when you’re not carrying it yourself it is such a fine balance of how much you’re going to be in their lives.”

The name of the new arrival has not yet been revealed.

The baby girl is one of a potential three new additions to the famous family with Khloe Kardashian expecting her first child and Kylie Jenner rumoured to be pregnant with Travis Scott's child.
