A nine-year-old boy thought nothing of material possessions when he tried to sell his skateboard so he could save a stray dog.

Mauco Abeiro came across the pooch, who appeared to have suffered a broken leg, in the street near his home in Guaymallén, Argentina.

But rather than look on and pass the animal by, kind-hearted Mauco decided to try and help.

Carrying the dog back to his home, Mauco decided that to pay for treatment to help the injured dog he would sell his favourite toy.

His mum Laura told The Dodo: “We could not afford treatment for the dog. But then Mauco arrived one day from school and said very firmly, ‘Mum, I’m going to sell my skateboard to take him to the vet.’”

Mauco borrowed his mum’s Facebook account to advertise the board, writing: “Look at this puppy. I found him in the street. He is sick and has a broken leg.

“I fed him and gave him a bath, but he needs treatment. I’m selling my skateboard to take him to the vet.

If anyone is interested in the skateboard, leave your number here so my mum can call you.”

Sadly no one was interested in buying the skateboard – but they WERE interested in providing funds to pay for the dog’s treatment, meaning Mauco didn’t have to give up his skateboard after all.

The dog, now named Rocco, is also a new member of the Abeiro family.
