A COLCHESTER community centre has a new passenger lift - thanks to a £35,000 grant.

The former passenger lift at Kingsland Community Centre was "faulty" and "unreliable".

It has been replaced by a new lift with "environmental considerations in mind".

The funding came from the Enovert Community Trust.

Trust manager Angela Haymonds said: "The trust is delighted to have supported this important project at Kingsland Community Centre to ensure the wonderful work carried out at Kingsland Community Centre is accessible to all."

The centre has been a social and community hub for the past 13 years, and hosts activities for all ages, families with children, older adults, the disabled and socially isolated.

Community centre volunteer Vivienne Depledge said: “I’d like to thank Enovert Community Trust for its generous grant making this project possible.

"The new lift has made a huge difference for us at the centre.

"Many members of our community have mobility issues, and ensuring they can access the services we offer is so important."
