Mill Gate Shopping Centre managers are aiming to conquer Scafell Pike this summer, pledging to raise £1,000 for Bury Hospice.

Angela Tierney, centre manager, and Graham Bentley, deputy centre manager, together with their partners will set off for the Lake District on Saturday, July 27.

Scafell Pike, England's highest mountain, stands at 3,209 feet and is an attractive challenge to daring climbers.

The Bury team is bracing for the intense physical and mental demands required for this gruelling expedition.

Angela Tierney said: "We wanted to set ourselves a real challenge and help to support such an incredibly important and worthwhile cause."

The group is currently under intense training, hoping to surpass their initial fundraising goals.

"Bury Hospice is there for all of us when we need them most and its amazing staff provide care and comfort when we need it most," Tierney added.

Hospice champions are vital for the community, offering palliative and end-of-life care for hundreds of residents and their families.

To keep these operations running, the hospice needs around £3.5m per year.

Fundraising activities, like the Scafell Pike challenge, contribute to 85 per cent of these funds.

Nina Camplin, corporate fundraiser at Bury Hospice, said: "Angela and Graham are tremendous supporters of Bury Hospice, taking time out to raise much-needed funds by climbing the tallest mountain in England at potentially the hottest time of the year."
