Southend Pier is transforming into a hotspot for live music and cocktails during a big Bank Holiday weekend extravaganza from today.

Taking place from Saturday, May 4 to Monday, May 6, the world's longest pleasure pier will welcome an impressive line-up of performers and celebrations over the three-day event.

Confirmed acts include the Old Time Sailors, a group renowned for their maritime-themed performances.

Back by popular demand following a sneak preview show, their performances promise to transport spectators back in time.

Also gracing the pier head stage will be Silver Darlings, an all-female shanty crew from Southend, alongside Essex-based duo Levent & Taylor, dishing out original gypsy-jazz, Latin and world music.

Additionally, four-piece band the Dusty Peddlers, will perform, aiming to stir up some foot-tapping country, folk, and rock 'n' roll.

Adding to the festive party atmosphere, Valley of the Dolls DJs, an all-female DJ collective, and Stewart H, a resident DJ at Essex-based Funky SX radio, will also be performing.

Visitors can also look forward to tastefully mixed artisan gin and rum cocktails at the Offshore Restaurant, promising something special for both fans of classic drinks and those seeking something a bit more adventurous.

Mark Harvey, executive director for adults and communities at the council, said: "Don’t miss out on this great weekend of music, refreshments, and fun on our most treasured and historical icon.

"Following our prestigious Pier of the Year award last year, which saw us triumph over the likes of Brighton pier and Cromer pier, we have kept the momentum going, delivering an exciting mix of events for all ages on our pier.

"These events are key in drawing new visitors to our pier as well as providing great entertainment for our residents, and there's plenty more in store over the coming months.
