Krysten Ritter is to star in a new 'Orphan Black' spin-off.
The 'Jessica Jones' star has signed up for the lead role in 'Orphan Black: Echoes' - a new series set within the world of the original which featured Tatiana Maslany as a woman who discovers she is one of a number of genetically identical clones.
A description of the new series states: "Set in the near future, the new Orphan Black takes a deep dive into the exploration of the scientific manipulation of human existence. It follows a group of women as they weave their way into each other's lives and embark on a thrilling journey, unravelling the mystery of their identity and uncovering a wrenching story of love and betrayal."
Krysten plays Lucy and the character is described as "a woman with an unimaginable origin story, trying to find her place in the world". The actress has also taken on an executive producer role on the show.
'Orphan Black' ran for five seasons before coming to an end in 2017 and the show's co-creator John Fawcett is returning to direct the 10-episode spin-off.
He said in a statement: "Embarking on a new saga of Orphan Black ... could not be more exciting. For all our dedicated OB fans out there, I am thrilled that we can bring this new chapter to them. Without our fans, this new show certainly wouldn't exist and for that I am deeply grateful. I can't wait to 'follow the crazy science' for them!"
'Orphan Black: Echoes' is slated for release in 2023.
