Kym Marsh got a cheeky message from one of her former Coronation Street co-stars as her next big role was revealed. The actress and presenter has most recently been seen appearing in Waterloo Road as school cook Nicky.

While she has been back filming for the BBC One school drama, Kym, 47, has revealed she's actually going to be returning to the stage in the new 101 Dalmatians the Musical in which she'll play the Disney villain Cruella De Vil.

This new musical is written by Douglas Hodge (music and lyrics) and Johnny McKnight (book), from a stage adaptation by Zinnie Harris and is reimagined from the acclaimed Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre production in 2022. When fashionista Cruella de Vil plots to swipe all the Dalmatian puppies in town to create her fabulous new fur coat, there’s trouble ahead for Pongo and Perdi and their litter of adorable, tail-wagging young pups.

The musical embarks on a UK and Ireland tour, launching at the New Wimbledon Theatre in June and it will come to Manchester's Palace Theatre for 11 dates between July 30 and August 10, with performances at 2pm and 7pm.

Announcing the news on Morning Live, Kym said: "I am about to go off on tour and play Cruella de Vil in 101 Dalmatians. I am so excited, it's really funny because everyone that knows me, including you, would say 'Kym's such a dog lover' so it's weird because obviously I have to pretend that I don't like the dogs.

"And the family are all excited, because obviously it's a very family show, if you're going to come to the theatre you can bring the kids, there's something for everyone."

But following the death of her beloved dad, David Marsh, earlier this year, Kym added to show hosts Gethin Jones and Michelle Ackerley added: "The sad part is that he won't be around to see it but he would have loved it, he would have been so thrilled to see me play this part but it has come at a good time, give me a bit of a lift and something to get my head into and really look forward to."
