Lana Del Rey has released a new single, ‘Say Yes to Heaven’ – you can hear it below.

The track is the first new music from the Los Angeles singer-songwriter since she released her ninth studio album, Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, last month. Written back in 2012 with Rick Nowels, the new song took on mythical status among Del Rey’s fanbase when a leaked version appeared online in 2016.

Speculated to have been penned for her second album, 2014’s Ultraviolence, it is thought that the unofficial version of the track was recorded in November 2013. After failing to appear on that album, she sought to rework it first for 2015’s Honeymoon, and again for 2017’s Lust for Life.

Now, after the track won renewed popularity on TikTok, Del Rey has today (May 19) surprise released the official version of the song. It arrives ahead of her return to the UK next month, with a Saturday headline slot on The Other Stage at Glastonbury in the diary for June 24. She’ll follow it up with a bill-topping appearance at British Summer Time in London’s Hyde Park on July 9.

She made her first live turn of the year last month at High Water Festival in Charleston, South Carolina, when she joined Bleachers unannounced to play her song ‘Margaret’, which was produced by frontman Jack Antonoff and written for his fiancee, Margaret Qualley. Del Rey has not played a full show since November 2019, when she wrapped up touring for Norman Fucking Rockwell!

Did you know that there’s a tunnel under Ocean Blvd, her sixth UK number one album, met with some of the strongest reviews of Del Rey’s career. In a four-star review of the record for Rolling Stone UK, Lauren O’Neill said: “For so long, Del Rey has been considered a sort of spokesperson for those of us prone to narrativising the especially torturous aspects of relationships, but on this album, her light notably touches so much more: her family; her friends; her great musical gift and those who inspire and are inspired by it; and most especially, herself.”
