Large Crowd Gathers at University of Minnesota After 9 Gaza Protesters Arrested

“Hundreds” of protesters gathered on the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus on April 23, hours after nine students were arrested for erecting a pro-Palestine encampment overnight, local outlet KSTP reported.

The Star Tribune newspaper said students were seen on video pitching tents at around 4 am, two hours before university police arrived on scene.

In a statement reported by local outlets, the university said, “The group was asked to disperse by 7 am and told they would be arrested if they chose to stay past that time.”

“Some of those present chose to disperse and continue peacefully protesting, but nine chose to remain and were arrested without incident,” the statement continued.

Similar demonstrations have been held across high-profile college campuses, including Columbia and Yale. Credit: Sean Lim via Storyful
