Lark Voorhies felt 'slighted and hurt' over 'Saved by the Bell' reboot snub

Saved by the Bell star Lark Voorhies has expressed her "hurt" at not being invited to join the reunion of the classic high school series.

The upcoming reboot of the programme will see Elizabeth Berkley, Mario Lopez and Mark-Paul Gosselaar reprise their roles as Jessie Spano, A.C. Slater and Zack Morris, however, Voorhies isn't involved.

The actor has speculated that her bipolar diagnosis may have influenced the decision.

The 45-year-old, who played Lisa Turtle, read a passage about her feelings on the matter on US show Dr Oz: "I have to admit I did feel a bit slighted and hurt when I was not invited to be part of the Saved by the Bell reunion as well as other cast members events.

"Yet of course, I also realised that having this puzzling disorder may have played a major part in that factual decision."

"With that in mind, I am truly thankful for having had the chance to work on a show that has been so successful," she added.

Last year, Gosselaar, Lopez, Berkley and Kelly Kapowski star Tiffani Thiessen got together for a reunion dinner with their spouses, but Voorhies was absent.

The synopsis for the new series is: “When California governor Zack Morris gets into hot water for closing too many low-income high schools, he proposes they send the affected students to the highest-performing schools in the state—including Bayside High.

"The influx of new students gives the overprivileged Bayside kids a much needed and hilarious dose of reality.”

Last month, it was announced that Josie Totah had been cast as the show's star as popular cheerleader Lexi.

The reboot is set to air later this year in the US on new streaming service Peacock. It is not yet known if it will be made available to UK viewers.
