Last Jedi director dares angry fans to do remake

From Digital Spy

It's fair to say that the most recent instalment in the Star Wars saga, The Last Jedi, was rather divisive among fans.

So much so that a group have got together to plot to make an entirely new version – but the film's director Rian Johnson isn't letting it get to him.

An account called 'Remake The Last Jedi' tweeted about their plans to make a brand new version of the Star Wars film, writing: "Our team of producers is offering to cover the budget for a remake of The Last Jedi in order to save Star Wars. Share this and spread the word to let @RobertIger & @Disney know you want this! This isn't a joke, we're ready to have the convo now! #RemakeTheLastJedi #StarWars".

Rian responded with a cheeky: "please please please please pleeeeeeeaaaase please actually happen please please please please please", followed by a string of praying emojis.

The group of fans have clearly thought their plans through in detail, as they followed up the initial tweet with further information about the potential project.

They revealed that they will be "consulting with Star Wars fans directly throughout the writing of the remake" and said "we want the writing team to be a diverse group of people that both loved and hated TLJ".

But it's not just Rian who isn't quite sold on this idea, as actor Seth Rogen told the group that he was "confused" about their ambitions.

"Yo I'm very confused as to what your goal is here. You literally want to spend 200 million dollars remaking the last Jedi? And someone is giving you that money? I don't get it," he tweeted.

Fans of the film were having a good laugh at the idea of a remake, with one tweeting: "Based on the main complaints I've seen from fans I'd guess most of the film would be Snoke giving a 30 minute monologue explaining his backstory while Luke does cool shit with a lightsaber in the background".

If this remake does manage to get off the ground, we doubt it'd have as much success at the box office as the original became the 10th highest-grossing movie of all time at the beginning of the year.

Rian recently hit out at fans who had harassed Last Jedi actress Kelly Marie Tran online, calling the actions "bullshit".
