If one thing has been getting us through these troubled times, it's the thought that Star Wars: The Last Jedi is on its way to end the mystery surrounding The Force Awakens' mysterious mystery villain, Supreme Leader Snoke.

We've got some bad news for you – we might have to wait until Episode 9.

Vanity Fair writer David Kamp participated in a Reddit AMA following the magazine's massive Last Jedi report released this week, where he was asked whether director Rian Johnson told him anything about the First Order's sinister master.

"I asked Rian Johnson about Snoke - Who/what is he?" said Kamp. "And Rian was fairly up front in saying that Snoke is not a character he particularly gets into in TLJ. Hmmm."

Hmmm indeed, David. Hmmm indeed.

Of course, this isn't to say that we won't get significant Snoke action in the movie, so we might still learn a bit about where Snoke comes from.

We'll soldier on, at leastuntil we find out that the secrets of Rey's past won't be exposed in The Last Jedi either. After that, we cannot say...

Perhaps we should be focusing more on Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma, who fans are theorising might be related to a well-established Star Wars villain.

The Vanity Fair story finally revealed some details about the characters played by series newcomers Laura Dern, Benicio Del Toro and Kelly Marie Tran.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be released on December 15.
