Yahoo News The Last of Us and American Horror Story stars team up for new movie
American Horror Story's Kate Mara and The Last of Us' Gabriel Luna have joined the cast of The Astronaut, a science-fiction thriller that Laurence Fishburne is already attached to.
As reported by Deadline, Mara will play an astronaut who is found alive, against all odds, in a punctured escape capsule floating on the sea following her first-ever mission into space.
She is placed under intense surveillance and undergoes medical testing in a high-security NASA house by General William Harris (Fishburne). While at the facility, the astronaut isn't allowed to see her husband, played by Luna.
When weird things start happening around the location where she's being held, the astronaut starts to wonder if something followed her back to Earth from space.

Highland Film Group's CEO Arianne Fraser said in a statement: "We are so pleased that Kate Mara and Gabriel Luna have joined with Laurence Fishburne to bring Jess Varley's script to life."
"We are delighted to be collaborating with this team of producers led by Brad Fuller to bring this haunting sci-fi experience to global audiences," Highland's COO Delphine Perrier added.
The Astronaut is being produced by Brad Fuller's Fuller Media, which has plenty of horror experience, having previously worked on The Purge franchise and A Quiet Place movies.

Production is set to begin in October in Ireland, and is going ahead due to an interim agreement made by the actors' union SAG-AFTRA.
The interim agreement means that while SAG-AFTRA is on strike, actors can work on certain approved movies from producers that are independent of the major studios.
American Horror Story airs on FX in the US and Disney+ in the UK. The Last of Us airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in the UK.
