The Last of Us star Melanie Lynskey responds to talk of a Kathleen spin-off

The Last of Us actress Melanie Lynskey has clarified reports that she has tried to get a spin-off for her character off the ground.

Lynskey played ruthless resistance leader Kathleen in the HBO video game adaptation before the character was killed by a clicker. A Variety interview stated that she had 'pitched' an origin story for Kathleen, stating it "would be really interesting" and she would be well up for it.

In response to a fan on Twitter, Lynskey reiterated that she'd definitely do a spin-off, but it hasn't been pitched or anything.

"No!! It is a very misleading headline!" she told the fan. "A sweet person on a press line asked would I do an origin story for her, and what am I going to do, say no?

"I said sure of course! I’d do anything Craig Mazin asked me to do, is the answer. I certainly didn’t 'pitch' this idea how mortifying [sic]."

While we may not see Lynskey in The Last of Us anymore, she has recently been filming best-selling novel adaptation The Tattooist of Auschwitz.

The series will tell the true story of a Jewish prisoner who is assigned with tattooing identification numbers on fellow prisoners' arms in a concentration camp during World War II, and instantly falls in love with a fellow prisoner.

The synopsis describes the series as a "courageous, unforgettable and human story, told through one man's memory and experience of Auschwitz-Birkenau".

Meanwhile, following the divisive season 1 finale, season 2 of The Last of Us will follow the story of the second game, and might lean in even further to TV's ability to show us different people's perspectives of the world and events.

The Last of Us airs on HBO in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and streaming service NOW in the UK.
