Lava Flow From La Palma's Cumbre Vieja Destroys Banana Plantation

Lava flows from La Palma’s Cumbre Vieja volcano swallowed banana plantations and warehouses as it made its way to the sea on September 28.

These aerials videos posted by the Instituto Geológico y Minero de España (IGME) shows the lava flows burning through a banana planatation near the town of Todoque.

The volcano’s eruption had affected approximately 476 hectares and destroyed 744 buildings as of September 29, according to the La Palma council. 185 people had been evacuated and moved to a hotel. Credit: IGME via Storyful
