Lava and ash could be seen flowing from Italy’s Mount Stromboli on March 31 after the volcano in the Tyrrhenian Sea erupted.

According to local reports, the eruption was the first since the active volcano killed a hiker eight months ago.

A press release from the National Institute of Geophysics and Volcanology said the lava flow had ceased by April 1. Credit: Giuseppe Distefano via Storyful
