Law & Order SVU is officially getting a spin-off, according to Deadline.

Organized Crime has not only been confirmed, but already has a date in NBC's schedule – and there's really not long left to wait.

It's not all bad...

Super-creator Dick Wolf (he runs the Law & Order: This, That and the Other and Chicago Fire, Med, PD, etc franchises) recently signed a whopper of a contract with Universal Television and this is the first project to be announced. But there are also "multiple series commitments", Deadline reports, so expect a lot more where that came from.

There's talk that former Chicago PD showrunner Matt Olmstead will spearhead this series after Craig Gore (SWAT and Chicago PD) was fired for writing the following Facebook post about the Los Angeles protests at the beginning of June: "light motherf**kers up who are trying to f**k with my property."

He also posted a photo of himself holding a weapon with the caption, 'Curfew…'

Law & Order: Hate Crimes is also in the works. It will eventually air on Peacock, NBC's streaming service.

But Organized Crime is the first port of call. Here's everything you need to know.

Law & Order: Organized Crime release date: When will it air?

The 13-episode season is set to hit NBC in the states this September.

As for its UK release date, Law & Order SVU airs on Sky in the UK, usually roughly one month after it arrives stateside. But it's not yet known if Organized Crime will follow the same pattern.

Law & Order: Organized Crime cast: Who's in it?

Christopher Meloni is reprising the role of Elliot Stabler, who heads up the NYPD organised crime unit.

Meloni exited SVU all the way back in 2011 after season 12 (it's now in its 21st season) when his character suddenly retired from the police, so as you'd expect there's a lot of excitement about his return.

Meloni had reportedly left the show because talks broke down between himself and NBC, which he confirmed on Watch What Happens Live in 2017.

"Not for a day," he said when asked if he regretted leaving.

And as of 2018, he had "zero plans" to return.

But time, as we all know, is a great healer.

Stabler will also pop up in the season 22 opener.

"It's pretty clear that Elliot will be in the SVU season opener," said showrunner Warren Leight on the show's behind-the-scenes podcast. "I think that much I know."

Law & Order: Organized Crime plot: What's it about?

"[Meloni] returns to the NYPD to battle organised crime after a devastating personal loss," reads the official synopsis. "However, the city and police department have changed dramatically in the decade he's been away, and he must adapt to a criminal justice system in the midst of its own moment of reckoning.

"Stabler will aim to find absolution and rebuild his life while leading an elite new task force that is taking apart the city's most powerful crime syndicates one by one."

Given that the show is set in New York, we're expecting crossovers galore and more than a few familiar faces.

Many will be keeping everything crossed for a reunion between Meloni and Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay), who is still knocking around on SVU.

The pair, who are good friends in real life, did reunite on screen with Wolf for The Paley Center Salutes Law & Order: SVU special at the beginning of 2020. But those who have followed the series from day one will be hoping for something more substantial when Organized Crime hits screens.

Law & Order: Organized Crime trailer: When can I watch it?

With the show set to premiere in September, we'd expect the trailer to arrive mid August/early September.
