Leeds United defender Diego Llorente is facing an uncertain wait over his future at Elland Road.

The 30-year-old spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan in Italy with Serie A side Roma, making 42 appearances in total. It remains to be seen whether the former Real Madrid man will remain at the Stadio Olimpico, given the Whites currently battle with Profitability and Sustainability regulations.

Reports in Italy suggest Llorente hopesto extend his stay with Daniele De Rossi's side and therefore could help Daniel Farke's side facilitate a move for him that would help release vital funds heading into yet another season in England's second tier.

As per the latest reports from Corriere Dello Sport, the versatile defender has operated largely as a centre-back alongside Chris Smalling, as Roma finished sixth in Serie A, securing a spot in the UEFA Europa League for next season.

"It’s time to look back and evaluate what we’ve done this year," wrote Llorente on social media yesterday. "We can’t be happy because we had the team to go further than we did and we were very close to achieving great objectives.

"However, it was not an easy season either and the team, together with the fans, overcame very difficult moments and we left everything on the pitch. We fought and suffered until the end. Thank you for your support in every game. You were incredible. Now we have days of rest… and of waiting…"

Reported to be earning in the region of £ 30,000 a week, it is unknown just how much of a split the two clubs agreed upon prior to the Spaniard's temporary switch. It will be interesting to see if Roma look to keep hold of Llorente beyond this season or if he will return to Elland Road.
