Leeds United name asking price for in-demand star with Whites ready to sell

Leeds United are ready to cash-in on defender Max Wober - but clubs will have to pay €15m to seal his services. The Austrian spent last season on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga but is set to return to Elland Road the summer.

The Whites must make some big decisions on their returnee loanees, with Brenden Aaronson already informed that he will be part of Daniel Farke's squad for the coming season. However, with United needing to raise funds after missing out on an immediate return to the Premier League, it looks as though Wober could be one of those sold on.

German side Gladbach are keen to sign him on a permanent deal after he helped to keep them in the division last term, but have been told them need to fork out around £12.5m to seal the deal, according to German news outlet Bild. Leeds are hoping to re-sign Tottenham defender Joe Rodon on loan, although face competition from Leicester and Southampton, and will have Pascal Struijk back in action soon too.

Ethan Ampadu starred at the centre of defence last season, while Jamie Shackleton and Charlie Cresswell can both play at centre-back. Diego Llorente is also due to return from his loan at Roma this summer, although as with Wober, he is expected to sign a permament deal elsewhere.

Wober signed for Leeds under Jesse Marsch in January 2022, but had three managers at Elland Road in his brief spell, with Javi Gracia and then Sam Allardyce arriiving at the club. While Wober was one of the better performers in the second half of that season, he was unable to prevent Leeds slipping into the Championship.

Despite initially featuring in pre-season under Daniel Farke, he moved to Gladbach before the season got under way and went on to play 27 times for the Bundesliga side. He is current part of Austria's EURO24 squad, and is set to feature this evening when their campaign gets under way against France.
