Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass has warned Leeds United's players about the mental approach to their play-off campaign, admitting the disappointment of missing out on automatic promotion can derail your play-off aspirations if you're not guarded against it.

Windass knows too well the heartache of being knocked out in the play-offs following his time at Accrington when the side missed out on automatic promotion by goal difference and then were cut down in the play-offs after failing to overcome that body blow.

Still tipping Leeds to win promotion, the Owls man says the mental approach of Daniel Farke's men over the next two weeks will be key to them joining Ipswich Town and Leicester City in the Premier League next season.

Asked for his play-off prediction, Windass said; "I still think Leeds will win the play-offs. With Leeds not making the top two, I do think there is a mental effect. Years ago when I was at Accrington, we lost out on goal difference.

“Looking back now I’m a bit older, the manager was, ‘argh, we’ve got to do the play-offs’. I don’t know if Leeds will be doing that but that mentality of it being a nightmare. We got knocked out in the semi-finals.

“Leeds need to get that behind them now. Norwich and West Brom are more buzzing they’re in the play-offs. It can mentally have an effect.”
