Former Aston Villa and Everton chief executive Keith Wyness has explained the questions that Leicester City's board will have to consider as they weigh up whether Graham Potter or Steve Cooper would be the best fit for the big vacancy at the King Power Stadium.

Potters is odds-on bookies' favourite to replace Enzo Maresca and become Leicester manager back in the Premier League, with Carlos Corberan still second favourite and Cooper, the former Nottingham Forest boss, third.

But whoever takes the job will have to also guide the club through whatever happens off the pitch. There is fear of a possible points deduction and limit to transfer activity due to Financial Fair Play breaches.

Wyness, who now runs a football consultancy business, suggests that part of the task should weigh heavily in Leicester's minds as they make this appointment - and he would advise them to lean towards Cooper.

“I see Graham Potter linked heavily, but I don’t know if that would be the right appointment," he told Football Insider's Insider Track podcast. “Nothing to do with his skills, but he’ll be facing some real issues with points deductions and noise around the club – I don’t think that fits his style of management.

“I see Steve Cooper as more of a scrapper and a fighter, he had more similar issues during his time at Nottingham Forest. That’s an understatement. He’s more suited to the type of environment Leicester are facing next season.

“If things can get resolved, then good luck to them – Potter would be a fantastic manager for the future. But as things stand, there are going to be a lot of distractions off the pitch – it’s going to be hard for Potter to try to work.

“They need a manager familiar with hand-to-hand combat. In reality, I’m expecting a very tough season – so they need someone who can get them through it."
