Dennis Praet is said to be a summer transfer target for boyhood club Anderlecht, who are eyeing a free transfer once his Leicester City contract expires at the end of the month.

After five years as a Leicester player, the 30-year-old was announced to be waving goodbye to the club at the end of his deal. He made 107 appearances for the club, scoring five goals, providing seven assists and winning two trophies - last season's Championship and the FA Cup in 2021.

However, Enzo Maresca only used him sparingly last season so when the time came at the end of the season, the midfielder admitted he was prepared to begin a new challenge elsewhere.

"I'm at the end of my contract and ready for something new," said Praet. "I am now 29 and physically at the peak of my career. I definitely want to become important somewhere again, so that I can find the fun in the game again.

"[Being a free agent is] certainly not frightening, because I think I have already shown enough of my worth. But the uncertainty is great. Where are we going to live? Where do the children go to school? These are questions that you want answered quickly."

Almost two months have passed and still no decision has been announced regarding his next destination, however a fresh report by Het Nieuwsblad claims the club where he began his professional career, Anderlecht, wish to see him return.

The move would cost the Belgian side nothing as their former player will be out of contract in England in three day's time, and would help them to save millions as an alternative to signing Denmark's Thomas Delaney, who impressed on loan last season.

If opting to return, Praet will have the opportunity to add to the 182 appearances he made, as well as the 27 goals he scored and 39 assists he managed before leaving in 2016. With the Purple and White, he was also a four-time league champion, three-time domestic super cup winner and was recognised with the Belgian Golden Shoe in 2014 - awarded to the country's footballer of the year.
