Midfielder Wilfred Ndidi is seemingly not short of options amid uncertainty over whether he will extend his stay at Leicester City.

The 27-year-old’s contract is due to run out at the end of this month. The club announced on Friday that they remain in discussions with the player regarding his future. However, Ndidi is clearly not short of suitors for his signature.

According to TEAMtalk, Everton have their eye on the Nigerian as they look to make use of the free agent market to help them avoid another Profitability and Sustainability Rules breach. He is said to “figure highly” on the Toffees’ wanted list and is seen as a potential replacement for Amadou Onana, who has interest from Arsenal and other teams.

The report states Everton director of football Kevin Thelwell is putting together an offer for Ndidi after a “request” by boss Sean Dyche to sign him. Dyche is said to be a “big admirer” of the midfielder.

Spanish sides Sevilla and Real Sociedad are also said to be keen on Ndidi. And it is said other Premier League teams could try to lure him on a free transfer.

It comes as City are said to be weighing up their own midfield reinforcement. They are reportedly plotting a £15 million move for Newcastle United’s Sean Longstaff.

Ndidi enjoyed a rejuvenation to his City career in the Championship, playing in a more advanced role. But when it comes to improving the Foxes’ squad, the midfield looks to be the area requiring the most attention.

With Dennis Praet leaving, with Yunus Akgun not returning after his loan spell, and with Ndidi's future up in the air, City are down to just one advanced midfielder, and there's no guarantee Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall stays either. Even if Ndidi stays, it may be that he reverts to operating in a defensive role now that City are playing at a higher level.
