Leicester City in teenager transfer chase with Enzo Maresca short on options in key position

Leicester City are reportedly in competition with three of their new Premier League rivals for Hertha Berlin prospect Ibrahim Maza.

City, Brentford, West Ham, and Brighton are eyeing the 18-year-old attacking midfielder, according to Bild in Germany, along with Werder Bremen and Wolfsburg. Hertha, now in the Bundlesiga’s second tier, are expected to part with players this summer as they look to balance the books and Maza could be one of those who heads for the exit.

The Germany Under-19 international made his Hertha debut against Bayern Munich last season but while he missed the first half of this campaign with a knee injury, he’s played in every game since his return to fitness in February. In 600 minutes of football, he’s grabbed a goal and two assists.

Attacking midfield is likely to be the priority position for City’s summer transfer business. Dennis Praet is on course to leave the club on a free transfer, Yunus Akgun is not expected to sign permanently after his loan from Galatasaray, while Enzo Maresca has hinted that Wilfred Ndidi, if he signs a new contract, would be used in a defensive role next season.

That leaves just Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall for the advanced midfielder positions, and even his future is not certain with City needing to sell to avoid a breach of Profit and Sustainability rules. While Will Alves is fit again and could be promoted to the first team full-time, Maresca will still need new options in that area.
